In India superbikes are classified as any two-wheeler having an engine in the range of 500cc plus. Industry experts believe that this segment will double its sales by the year 2020.

During 2014 to 2015 roughly 9,500 units of superbikes were sold. The segment has been growing in tremendous pace and is expected to double in the coming five years.

Currently the market is dominated by two manufacturers Royal Enfield and Harley Davidson. Triumph Motorcycles, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, DSK-Hyosung and DSK-Benelli are catching up as well.

Manufacturers that will assemble their motorcycles in India will surely have an advantage. CKD units do not attract heavy taxation and can be priced lower, thus making it available to a wider audience.
