2015 MotoGP Italian Round Won By Jorge Lorenzo
On 31st of May, 2015 MotoGP paddock headed down to Mugello, Italy for the sixth round. On pole position for the very first time was Andrea Iannone with his factory Ducati.
Jorge Lorenzo was second fastest followed by Andrea Dovizioso. It was an upsetting qualifying session for both Rossi and Marquez, who were eighth and thirteenth fastest respectively.
The race began in spectacular fashion with Marc Marquez gaining several places within the first turn. Repsol Honda rider climbed from 13th to fourth in a matter of a lap.
Italian fans were in for a disappointment as their local hero Valentino Rossi dropped down to 11th position, due to a bad start. His pace seemed slower to that of the front runners and was ruled out in the opening stage.
‘The Doctor' eventually found his rhythm and started making his move to catch duelling riders upfront. It was a race for second position as Lorenzo moved to the front and dominated with consistent fast laps.
A great battle between Iannone and Marquez continued as they kept exchanging places. It was clear that the Ducati had tremendous straight line speed, while Honda was better in corners.
Championship dream for Marquez seems to be diminishing as the Spaniard lost his front end in closing stage, which ended his race. Valentino Rossi ceased this moment as realised second place could be achieved.
The Italian Yamaha rider was stuck behind Dani Pedrosa who did not make overtaking easy. Andrea Iannone was too far ahead to steal second place from and Rossi settled for third place.
For the next round MotoGP paddock will head out to Barcelona-Catalunya, Spain. Practice session will begin on 12th of June with race day on 14th of June 2015.
