Yamaha Showcases MT-125; Targeted At Young Riders

Yamaha recently launched two power packed bikes, the MT-09 and MT-07. These new models look sharp and aggressive and showcase the new design philosophy of the manufacturer.

Yamaha have now showcased a more practical option in the MT series the MT-125, which will be targeted specifically to young riders. The bike is a naked streetfighter, which looks similar to their MT range of bikes.

Powering the MT-125 is a 124.7cc single-cylinder 4-stroke, liquid cooled engine. It will produce power in the range of 15 PS along with 12.4 Nm of peak torque. It will sport fuel injection and a 6-speed gearbox.

Yamaha have provided the MT-125 with a Steel Deltabox frame. It will sport upside-down shocks in the front, while the rear of the bike gets a linked type monoshock suspension with preload adjustment. Braking on the bike will be aided by disc brakes in the front as well as in the rear.

The MT-125 will sport an LCD display which provides a shift indicator. There will be an animated display, which is inspired by the current smartphones. The rear lights will be LED units and will be placed below the seat and will have an aggressive look. The bike looks modern and nothing like the current competition.

The bike is specifically targeted to developed markets and is based on their current YZF-R125. Yamaha is currently working on their 250cc sports bike for Asian markets which, is dubbed as the R25. We expect that Yamaha will use the 250cc platform to develop a MT-250 for Asian customers.

The bike will follow the similar MT styling however, it will be powered by a 250cc engine which will power their R25 bike. It would be a great product to be offered in India and could be placed alongside the FZ range that currently sells in India.

Currently the MT-125 will compete in UK against KTM 125 Duke and Honda's MSX 125. Yamaha will offer their bike in three colours Race Blue, Matt Grey and Matt Red.
