Yamaha R25 Launch; A Day To Go

By Ajinkya

[Update: Launched] Yamaha is all set to launch their new quarter-litre bike that is expected to take the world by storm. The launch of the R25 will take place in Indonesia and will be followed eventually in India. The Japanese manufacturer is expected to recreate the magic that it achieved with it second-gen R15.

The R25 was showcased in India at the 2014 Auto Expo held in New Delhi. Yamaha stands were the centre of attraction owing to the R25 prototype on display. There have been spy images surfacing before the launch from Indonesia. We were a bit disappointed by the spy images as it looks like a totally new bike and nothing like the prototype.

There must be a valid reason for this and we expect Yamaha to price their offering aggressively even though it is a twin-cylinder engine. The R25 now looks big and beefy, tail section of the bike resembles the back of Honda's CBR250R. We were expecting the Yamaha to have a minimalistic design in the rear like the R15.

Yamaha's R25 has an advantage over Honda's CBR250R as their bike will sport a 250cc twin-cylinder engine with liquid cooling. The engine is expected to generate 35 horsepower and will feature a 6-speed gear system. The quarter-litre bike will have excellent power-to-weight ratio.

The R25 will be a performance oriented bike and will have a high-revving engine. It will have a digital speedometer and analogue tachometer, LED tail lamp, web-inspired alloy wheels, mono shock suspension in the rear and many more tech goodies. It is however, unclear if the R25 will sport ABS or not. Yamaha will do well to at least offer it as an option.

They have launched the bike in Indonesia at a price of 53 million Rupiah, which translates to INR 2,70,000 roughly. Yamaha plans to sell 12,000 units of their new R25 in the first year. The bike will be available for sale in July, 2014 and will commence deliveries too. The Japanese manufacturer plans to launch their bike in India in 2015 and not before that.
