Massimo Tamburini Iconic Motorcycle Designer Passes Away
The iconic motorcycle designer of Ducati 916, MV Agusta F4 and many more superbikes, Massimo Tamburini passed away during the weekend. He lived up to the age of seventy; however, he suffered from cancer and lost the battle.
In the early seventies Massimo Tamburini founded Bimota an Italian motorcycle manufacturer of performance bikes. He entered the venture with two more of his partners. It's a fact, the last two letters of Bimota are his first two letters from Tamburini.
During the eighties Massimo Tamburini joined the Cagiva outfit. Back then they also owned Ducati motorcycles. The iconic designer used his artistic mind to create designs for both companies, maintaining a difference.
During his stint at Ducati, he was responsible in designing the muscular and well sculpted Ducati 916. It changed the design element of Ducati, which they were following for a while now. He provided the Italian manufacturer with a handsome looking package for their power packed machines.
It was the first time a Ducati was available with a partially exposed chassis, one sided swingarm along with an undertail exhaust. This design by Massimo Tamburini provided a base for future Ducati bikes.
That wasn't the end, he further showcased his work of art with MV Agusta, designing their F4. The MV Agusta F4 is pure art on wheels. The bike was muscular and had the famous, four pipes under the exhaust. The F4 revived part of MV Agusta's lost glory.
Massimo Tamburini called it quits during 2008. However, his work art can still be experienced if you can get your hand on a Ducati or MV Agusta. His design were not only loved by Italian's, it provided a mix, which most of the manufacturers needed back then.
Massimo Tamburini's design and his work can be experienced at 'The Art of the Motorcycle' exhibit, at Guggenheim Museum.
The iconic designer will be missed and we pay our condolence to his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace.
