Johammer’s New Electric Two Wheeler

By Ajinkya

Many manufactures have been developing their electric vehicles for a sustainable future. However, most of them are concentrating on the four wheel segment, a handful of the manufacturers are working on a two wheeler that will work on electric energy.

An Austrian company Hammerschmid Maschinenbau has developed an electric bike that they call the Johammer. Like most electric vehicle it breaks apart from the conventional design of a two wheeler.

The Johammer has a distinctive look and cannot be mistaken for anything that is available in the market currently. It has a minimalistic design and every feature on a bike has been integrated into the design.

The Austrian company will offer two variants of Johammer electric bike a J1.150 and a J1.200. Both these bikes will weigh in at 158 and 177 kilograms respectively, which is mainly the battery weight.

The names of both the models have been chosen significantly the J1.150 will sport a 8.3 kWh battery and will provide a range of 150 kilometres. While the J1.200 will have a bigger 12.7 kWh battery and once charged can be used for 200 kilometres.

The electric two wheeler won't be particularly fast however, it does not need to go fast since it will spend most of it times within city limits. The Austrian company claims that their batteries will last a lifetime and will not lose more than 15% of its capacity over a period of four years.

The Austrian Johammer will be controlled from the handlebar and not by foot levers. The bike will not sport an instrument console. All the details will be displayed in the mirror, which is a good touch.

Don't expect the Johammer in India anytime soon. The automobile sector believes we are still not ready for electric vehicles. One more aspect that will deter most buyers is the cost. It is expected to be priced at around 25,000 Euros.
