Honda CBR250R Dwindling Sales In 2014

By Ajinkya

Honda India launched its quarter-litre motorcycle in India a while ago. Since then they haven't changed anything on the bike or given it a facelift, but had only launched several special editions of the CBR250R.

Now, their sales figures show that the Indian buyer is fed up with the bike and is expecting something new from the Japanese giant. The CBR300R has been delayed extensively and has surely affected the sales of Honda CBR250R in India. This 300cc version is the most likely successor in India and sports a new design with dual headlamps in front.

The Japanese manufacturer was reported selling an all-time-low 79 vehicles in the month of April, 2014. Surprisingly, its younger sibling the CBR150R has done well for itself, with sales of 935 units in April, 2014.

Honda had launched the 250cc motorcycle with an affordable price tag. Back then also not everyone liked the design of the CBR250R, it sported the CBR badge and looked more like a VFR. This hugely disappointed many people. But the bike packed grunt for a single-cylinder mill.

The CBR250R by Honda sports a 249cc single-cylinder engine, which is liquid cooled. The engine is capable of producing 22.9 Nm of peak torque along with 26 horsepower. It is mated to a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox. It has a twin spar type chassis and is a bit dated, when compared to its competitors. The Japanese manufacturer offers ABS on the CBR250R as an option.

We agree that the competition is tough and if Honda wants to succeed it urgently needs to get its CBR300R to India or at least release a facelift of the CBR250R. Yamaha has launched the R25 in Indonesia which is bound for India, and will always be a worthy competitor. The KTM RC390 launch too is around the corner - it will be priced aggressively by the Austrian company.
