Aprilia Returns To MotoGP In 2016
The Italian motorcycle icon has decided it will return to the highest level of GP racing. Aprilia is all set for a 2016 MotoGP return. Piaggio is now in command of Aprilia and will manage the Italian brand.
This won't be their first time in MotoGP; however, earlier they tasted success in the smaller categories with the expertise of Jorge Lorenzo. They were a force to reckon with in 2006 & 2007, with their 250cc MotoGP bike.

Aprilia's 500cc 2-stroke machine lack the power generated by the Japanese giants. They competed with their RS Cube bike; however, the bike was tricky to ride and suffered a lot during races.
They have so far tasted success in WSBK with Max Biaggi, who won the championship for them. He rode their famous RSV4 1000 Factory bike, which was specially prepared for WSBK.
They were also present in MotoGP 2013 edition; however, they didn't run as a factory and provided their machinery to open class Aspar team, where they again dominated with new found talent Aleix Espargaro.

The Spanish rider won the Open class battle with a huge margin. However, he did not continue as he wasn't sure about Aprilia's intentions before switching to Yamaha's NGM Forward Racing Team.
The Italian motorcycle manufacturer has confirmed a few wild card appearance in the 2015 Championship of MotoGP. They will not participate in Moto2 nor Moto3 in 2016, as of now.
This year Aprilia is providing their machinery to IodaRacing Project, as they need to be present and know the developments within MotoGP. The Riders have not yet been confirmed for their campaign. They admit there is no shortage in options though.
