Yamaha D'elight 125cc Segment Scooter For Europe

Yamaha has launched an all new automatic scooter in the 125cc segment. But not for India as you would think. The new 2014 model city scooter is a Europe only model, sporting a Vespa-isque, classic and elegant design.

We would also be wrong to assume that European buyers are not welcome to the idea of a small displacement scooter. In fact, Yamaha says, the up-to-125cc segment accounts for around "60% of the total market for scooters in Europe". Also, considering the financial crisis several European nations are suffering under, a fuel efficient scooter makes more sense than a fuel thirsty bike.

Design

Design

Like the Vespa, Yamaha has relied on a classic, retro-style bodywork for the D'elight, complete with a round headlight. Indicator lamps are integrated into the bodywork. The design does look decent, but fails to stand out in the crowd like a Vespa.

Engine

Engine

The new Yamaha D'elight is an automatic scooter powered by a 114cc, air cooled, single cylinder, 4 stroke engine, with Yamaha Mixture Jet-Fuel Injection technology.

Performance

Performance

The peppy engine produces 7.7 Nm torque @ 5,500 rpm, providing quick acceleration. Yamaha says, the D'elight offers the performance of a 125cc scooter and the agility of a 50cc class one.

Light & agile

The new Yamaha D'elight represents a new direction for Yamaha because its elegant lines give it a classic look that is not commonly seen on a Yamaha scooter. The gracefully curving bodywork offers the rider excellent wind protection as well as a roomy riding position, while the well padded stitched dual seat and colour co-ordinated grab rail accentuate the classic style and allow the rider to carry a passenger in comfort.

Price

Price

Yamaha D'elight will be priced in the range of £1799 excluding taxes (INR 1,64,337 ). It may sound a lot by Indian standard, but if launched in India that price will be suitably cut down. Do you feel this scooter should be launched in India?
