Triumph Motorcycles Coming To India In November
It's official. The British performance bike maker, Triumph Motorcycles will finally be setting up camp in India in November. Leading its Indian operation will be Vimal Sumbly, who has been appointed as the managing director. Sumbly happens to be a biking enthusiast himself and comes with about 16 years of experience in the Indian automobile sector.
Triumph Motorcycle gave Indian motorcycle enthusiasts the first taste of its bikes at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. It even went to the extent of putting a price tag on each model. However, due to reason unknown Triumph's entry into India has been delayed by nearly two year. But nevertheless, it's now confirmed and that is all that matters.

Bonneville
One reason behind the delay could be the company's cautious approach. Triumph now has a clear cut plan for India and it looks like it plans to be recognized better than extremely niche brands such as Moto Guzzi or Ducati, but more like Harley Davidson. Hence the CKD path has been chosen, which will keep prices lower.

Speed Triple
In the beginning, Triumph will be represented by a few, selected group of dealers and assembly will take place in a relatively small plant located in Manesar.

Daytona 675
Expect pricing to be slightly more than what were announced last year due to inflation and a falling rupee. We suspect, like Harley Davidson, Triumph will assemble lower end models like the iconic Bonneville and Street Triple & Daytona 675 locally and import more expensive Thunderbird Storm and Rocket III models, at least initially.

Tiger 800 XC
An assembly plant inNarsapura, on the outskirts of Bangalore is also under construction, but it is still quite some way from completition, but it is part of Triumph's long term strategy.

Thundebird Storm
Paul Stroud, director sales & marketing (Triumph global) commented on India's significance in Triumph's global strategy: "2013 is a very crucial year for Triumph Motorcycles in India and as a company, we are confident about the timing of our market entry. In the past few months, we have carefully assessed the market landscape and will be making well-honed efforts to provide our discerning customers with a complete brand experience."

Rocket III
Vimal Sumbly said, "I am delighted to have joined Triumph as the brand looks to embark on a well phased out strategy for the Indian market. Our commitment of developing truly iconic motorcycles that are distinctive in looks, design and performance remains ever-present. Soon Indian customers will be able to experience these category winning machines on Indian roads, as the brand looks to elevate the motorcycling paradigm."
