Triumph Motorcycles To Enter India In A Few Months
If you remember, the Leicestershire, UK based Triumph Motorcycles had a significant presence at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. The British motorcycle maker was supposed to set up shop in India by mid 2012. But due to unknown reasons, mostly internal, the launch was delayed. But there is some good news coming in after more than an year.
In its India website it mentions Triumph plans to open dealerships in Indian cities this year. But no dates are mentioned. Now, we have a clearer picture of when in 2013 we can expect Triumph's Indian entry. In an reply to Bikeadvice's mail Triumph's India Enquires division has confirmed exclusive dealerships will be operational before the end of the third quarter.
Triumph mostly offers naked bikes, with only the Daytona 675 being a fully faired sportsbike. This would mean Triumph's direct rivalry will mostly be with Harley Davidson. Triumph will initially open dealership in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, followed by Pune, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Chennai, Hyderabad, Cochin and Goa. It is not clear whether models will be imported or locally assembled. Our guess is, it will be a mix of both, with lower end variants offered as CKD.
