Seagull Gets Sucked Into Lorenzo’s Bike During Australian MotoGP
Jorge Lorenzo was the fastest during qualifying during last week's qualifying session at the Australian MotoGP. Lorenzo took his Yamaha around the Phillip Island circuit in a record time, in part helped by the new track surface.
Lorenzo secured pole position with the fastest overall lap time. The previous record lap time of 1:28:665 set by Casey Stoner was shattered when Lorenzo clocked 1:27:899. Marc Marquez qualified second, followed by Valentino Rossi, completing the first grid.
Amongst the excitement took place an unusual, but unfortunate event when an unlucky seagull got too close to Lorenzo's bike and got sucked into the radiator. The incident took place during the first lap.
Lorenzo later stated that he did not realise it when the bird got pulled into his bike, but said it did not affect his lap time."I saw so many birds during the first lap I thought I might hit one, and when I got into Lukey Heights, I saw one very close to my bike, so I put my head down and then the bird went down into the bike." he said.
