Of the several models that entered the fray only 9 models were shortlisted including Mahindra Centuro and the finalists RE Continental GT, KTM Duke 390 and Hyosung Aquila Pro. The winner was selected based on votes received on various parameters such as price, fuel efficiency, styling, comfort, safety, performance, practicality, and technical innovation, value for money and suitability for Indian driving conditions.

Speaking about how the jury voted the RE Continental GT the winner, Vikrant Singh said, it seemed like a tough decision to make considering the Aquila Pro's "comfortable and torquey" cruising abilities, the 390 Duke's "fast and entertaining" ride and the Centuro feature rich package. However the Continental GT emerged as a clear winner thanks to its good looks, riding stability, ride quality affordability. Six out of the nine jurors gave the RE Continental GT top ratings.

Royal Enfield Continental GT is a remake of the original RE Cafe Racer from 1965. The Continental GT has effectively managed to recreate the charm of a classic cafe racer by faithfully rebuilding the bike from scratch and improving upon the design.

RE Continental GT joins the list of winners from previous years. Those winners are: KTM Duke 200 (2013), Honda CBR 250R (2012), Honda CB Twister (2011), Kawasaki Ninja 250R (2010), Yamaha R15 (2009) and Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi (2008).
