Royal Enfield Continental GT Cafe Racer India Debut In October
Royal Enfield has reconfirmed what it had already said earlier. India's marquee two wheeler manufacturer will launch its new flagship product, the Continental GT Cafe Racer in September in the U.K. India launch will follow in October.
"The Continental GT will be launched in the UK in September. This is a product for the global audience and is one of the big steps we are taking to be a global player in the mid-sized segment," Eicher Motors Managing Director & CEO Siddhartha Lal told ET in a conference call. Nothing new about the bike has been revealed. Here's what we known about the Continental GT as of now.
The upcoming RE Continental GT will be a 535cc, four stroke, twin cylinder, liquid cooled engine powered bike. It is a brand new engine which has been developed in association with U.K's Harris Engineering.
Being a Cafe Racer, the Continental GT will be a single seater, with its characteristic, low-slung clip-on handlebars, long and streamlined tank, straight seat and classic round headlights. A two seater version is most likely to be made available exclusively in India, since we are not accustomed to single seater motorcycles.
Other features that will constitute the Continental GT will be the light double cradle frame, a first for Royal Enfield, Paioli shocks, Pirelli tyres and front/rear disc brakes. The Continental GT will also be the lightest and the fastest production Royal Enfield ever.
The launch of the Continental GT will be a significant one in more than one way. Not only will it be RE's first production Cafe Racer, but it will also be India's first. The Continental GT Cafe racer will also be the most expensive RE, expected to be priced in the range of INR 2.25 lakhs.
