Most Stolen Motorcycle/Two Wheelers In The United States Are Japanese

Ever wondered which motorcycles thieves prefer to steal the most? The United States National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) has released data collected by the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) which provide a clear picture of which two wheeler was the most stolen in the year 2012, in the United States.

The top four honours go to Japanese OEMs, with Honda being a thief's favourite. A total of 46,061 two wheelers were reported stolen in 2012, of which 9,082 were Honda two wheelers.

This was followed by Yamaha in second place (7,517), Suzuki in third (7,017) and Kawasaki in fourth (4,839). Meanwhile, 3,755 bike manufactured by Harley Davidson were stolen, bringing it to fifth position. The sixth place went to Taotao, a company that builds scooters, ATVs, dirt bikes and electric vehicles.

Besides manufacturers the report also breaks down the bikes stolen down to location. California tops the list, with 6,082 thefts, followed by Florida, with 4,110 thefts. Texas, North Carolina and Indiana follow, with 3,400, 2,574 and 2,334 thefts respectively.

City wise, most two wheelers were stolen in New York city (903), followed by Las Vegas (757), Sandiego (633), Indianapolis (584) and Miami (535).

The report also mentions the number of reported two wheeler thefts are high during summer months and in cities with warm climate. That's got to do with the riding habits of people. Motorcycling is prevalent in arears with warm climate, while people prefer cars over two wheelers in colder climates.
