Images: KTM Super Duke 1290 R Patriot Edition

Last weekend KTM greeted its U.S dealers with a special on-off Duke based on the Super Duke 1290 R prototype. Dubbed the ‘Patriot Edition', the one-off wears the blue and white, ‘star n stripes' of the U.S flag. Besides arousing the US dealers' national pride the ‘Patriot Edition' also provided the rest of us with a better idea about how the prototype Super Duke might turn out to be once it hits production.

While the only image of the Super Duke 1290 R ‘Patriot Edition' available yesterday was a grainy, underexposed shot, today, a fresh set of high res images have surfaced. Thanks to blog.derestricted.com, we can now compare the 2012 EICMA orange ‘beast' prototype and the near production ‘Patriot Edition'. The immediate observation one will make are of the headlights and the exhaust outlets.

The angular headlight design on the Patriot Edition certainly goes well with the rest of the bike. The image, taken from various angles also reveals, for the first time, the top of the fuel tank. And they certainly look massive and properly intimidating. The dual exhaust, the overhanging one from Akrapovic, seen on the orange prototype has made way for a more conventional unit. This bit was only expected since the dual exhaust system was, sadly, just too radical to make its way into a production bike. Go through the image gallery below and let us know your thoughts.

A clear comparision of the headlights can be made here. The prototype on the left is fitted with a minimal, single LED unit.

The Patriot Edition looks ever so slightly less agressive now that it has lost its dual exhaust.
