KTM Duke 390 Will Sport ABS

The highly anticipated KTM Duke 390 sport bike, that will be launched in India sometime during the middle of the year, could come with an optional Anti-lock Braking System, reports Autocar India.

According to the report, the Duke 390's ABS will be sourced from Bosch, like most other manufacturers do. The 9M ABS will be managed by a dedicated ECU that will manage engine torque besides handling front and rear wheel spin using separate sensors. However, if the rider feels like having more control over the bike there will be an option to turn off ABS assist as well.

KTM unveiled the Duke 390 last year at the EICMA as a 2013 model. The bike is manufactured by Bajaj, KTM's partner, in its Chakan plant near Pune. The Duke 390 is expected to be a very fast machine, considering the engine delivers 43 HP and 35 Nm of torque, which is used to drive a mass of around 150 kg. Considering this, the option of ABS seems like a very good idea, especially for Indian road conditions.

The Duke 390 uses the same frame as the Duke 200 and 125 and uses the same tyres as the 200 as well. If KTM provides ABS as an option with the Duke 390 it will become only the third Indian built motorcycle to do so, the other two being Honda CBR250R and TVS Apache RTR180. Price for the upcoming KTM is expected to be around INR 2.0 lakhs.
