KTM CEO Buys Husqvarna From BMW Motorrad

Husqvarna Bike
Swedish motorcycle brand Husqvarna has changed hands officially. We had earlier reported about the possibility of BMW Motorrad selling Husqvarna to KTM. But it turns out that Husqvarna was actually bought by KTM CEO Stefan Pierer.

Stefan Pierer is the owner of Pierer Industrie AG which owns a majority stake in KTM. BMW Motorrad has stated that it sold Husqvarna to Stafan Pierer in an effort to realign its focus on e-mobility and urban mobility.

Husqvarna is a manufacturer of off-roading and endurance motorcycles that might not fit in with BMW Motorrad's future plans. KTM on the other hand builds sporty motorcycles.

Both BMW Motorrad and Husqvarna have not specified the size of the deal. The deal still needs to be approved by anti-thrust authorities before it can go through. Even if the Husqvarna KTM deal is complete, it is yet unclear what benefits that KTM's partner Bajaj Auto stands to gain.

Since Mr Stefan Pierer has purchased Husqvarna, one cannot say if he will be integrating it with KTM or keep it as a separate entity. If Husqvarna eventually becomes a part of KTM, Bajaj Auto can be exposed to the advanced technology developed by the Swedish brand.

BMW Motorrad is shifting its focus on cleaner and more eco-friendly two wheelers. It is developing low emission engines and pure electric drives. Both these will be used in future BMW motorcycles and scooters.
