Hero MotoCorp Karizma Successor Inches Closer To Reality

The Karizma, a premium sports bike by Indian standards, was launched a decade ago when Hero MotoCorp was still one with Honda. The bike was followed by a fully faired version, with the added ‘ZMR' to its title, in 2009. Considered a major refresh at the time, the bike has lost most of its glory in the past couple of years mostly due to the availability of more powerful bikes in the category.

Hero MotoCorp's only performance motorcycle, the Karizma, in its present state, does not even fall in the same category of bikes such as the Pulsar 200NS, Honda CBR250R and the KTM 200, despite sporting a 223cc capacity engine. So, it was about time Hero started working on a major refresh of the Karizma. Going by the several spy shots of test mules, it looks like the end product is nearing completion.

Hero has kept the upcoming Karizma successor tightly under wraps, literally. Thus we can only guess whether or not the new bike will just be a facelift or a brand new bike. At least in terms of the looks, we'll say, the former is more likely. The engine on the other hand, is what matters more.

Once again, we suspect that the new engine will only be more powerful and overall, modern version of the present 223cc unit (possibly even a Honda technology derived 250cc engine). But Hero's association with EBR and a couple of other overseas engine technology partners suggests a future model could be upgraded with a high performance and world class engine.

From the spyshots procured by Autocar India we get an idea about the upcoming bike. They are sure to be fully faired, like the ZMR. Availability of rear disc brakes will depend on the variant. The bikes seen in the image are definitely wearing donor bike parts. Hence, we are likely to get differently styled exhaust mufflers. The bike could have a slightly different seating position based on the steep rear-end design and the clip-on handlebars which look slightly different than the ones seen on the Karizma ZMR.

Hero MotoCorp's Karizma ZMR successor is expected to hit the market at the start of the festive season.
