Ducati Reports Record Sales In 2012

The Italian bike maker has had good business in the last couple of years and this became particularly evident when the sales report was released for the year 2012 by Ducati owner Audi at a press conference in Germany.

Total global revenue earned by Ducati in 2012 was 606 million euros or US$789 million. This comes up to an increase in sales of 4 percent compared to 2011. As has been the trend for the last few years sales in the United States has been better than Italy, which is now Ducati's largest market, with 9,300 bikes sold. An increase of 21 percent over 2011.

"The biggest single market was the United States with more than 9,300 motorcycles sold - twice as many as in 2003," says Rupert Stadler, chairman of the board of the Audi. "Why do I mention that? Because the relevant overall market has contracted by more than half in the same period. So Ducati successfully utilized one of the most difficult times in the American motorcycle business as an opportunity."

Ducati manufactured 43,910 motorcycles last year of which 15,734 came after Audi's acquisition. Ducati's Thailand plant's share in this was 2,391 units, while the rest were built in Bologna, Italy.
Audi has even released exact numbers of each model built under its ownership. 1,730 Diavels, 89 Hypermotards, 5,001 Monsters, 2,519 Multistradas, 1,440 Streetfighters and 4,955 Superbikes.

"With new stakeholders in the company, Ducati has never been so solid, and these positive figures confirm the value and commitment of all the company staff and of our brand, increasingly popular, appreciated and renowned all over the world," says Gabriele Del Torchio, chief executive officer of Ducati Motor Holding.
"The 2013 product range, including the new Multistrada, Hypermotard, Hyperstrada and 1199 Panigale R models, is the expression of technological excellence and the emotional impact of our products, ever-important in the current, highly competitive economic climate, perfectly complements our unmistakable, all-Italian style. Ducati is today, and will continue to be, a product-oriented company, with development and innovation as the milestones of our growth strategy."
