Bajaj To Launch New Pulsar & Discover Models

Bajaj has once again revealed its aggressive future growth strategy. This time it was Rajiv Bajaj who, while speaking to CNBC-TV18, said the company would launch around six new motorcycle models, two of which will belong to the Pulsar brand.

One of the new Pulsar models to come out will be smaller than the Pulsar 200NS. This model is most likely going to be a Pulsar 150cc refresh, which has remained unchanged for longer than it should have been. Expect the new smaller Pulsar to be launched during the festive season.

The other Pulsar if of course going to be the Pulsar 390 or whatever Bajaj plans to call it. The high displacement Pulsar will be powered by the same ~370cc unit from the KTM Duke 390. The larger Pulsar is also expected to wear full fairing, which will differentiate it from its KTM counterpart and also give Bajaj its first fully faired motorcycle.

Moving away from the premium/performance segment and talking about the mass market bikes, the Discover series will receive a boost as well, with the addition of four or more new models. These new Discover models will be launched over a period, but before the end of the 2013-14 financial year.

Bajaj recently lost its second position in India to Honda, which it now badly wants to reclaim. While Honda's strategy was to bring out new budget models Bajaj has been lacking behind on this front. A mistake it wants to rectify.
