2014 Yamaha FZ/MT-09 Three Cylinder Street Bike
Yamaha has launched the first motorcycle powered its new three cylinder engine, the 2014 MT-09, for the European market. The same bike has also been announced for North America where it will be called FZ-09. This is the same bike which Yamaha teased us about with its "Dark Side of Japan" video a few weeks back.
Yamaha MT-09 is powered by a 847cc three cylinder mill, which it says, delivers 113 HP at 10,000 rpm and 64.5 foot pounds of torque from 8,500 rpm. In comparision, Yamaha FZ8, which the new bike is set to replace, produces 104.7 HP at 10,000 rpm and 60.5 ft-lb of torque at 8000 rpm from its 779cc inline four cylinder engine. At 414 pounds the MT-09 is also 51 pounds lighter than the FZ8.
Besides the new engine Yamaha MT-09 also uses an all new CF aluminum die-cast frame that improves rigidity. Other specs include, 298mm discs in the front and a single 245mm disc at the rear and 41mm USD forks, which only offer preload and rebound adjustments. 2014 Yamaha FZ/MT-09 is priced at $7,990 in the US and £6799 in the UK. Being a sub 800cc model, the MT-09 has the potential to enter India as a CBU, but not in the near future. Do not miss the video in the gallery below.
