2014 Indian Motorcycles Lineup Unveiled In Sturgis, Headed To India
The oldest U.S motorcycle brand and a true American, the iconic Indian Motorcycles has made a comeback. Under the guidance of Polaris, its new owners, the 2014 Indian Motorcycles lineup was unveiled at the annual motorcycle event at Sturgis, U.S.A.
The Indian Motorcycles lineup at present consists of only the Indian Chief model, of which three variants are on offer. The limited product offering was a conscious decision made by the management since it felt it should establish itself thoroughly in its rebirth, before thinking growing further. The same lineup of motorcycles are also expected to come to India. Here are the details.

Thunder Stroke 111
This is the brand new engine around which the new lineup is built. The Thunder Stroke 111 is a 1819 cc, liquid cooled, fuel injected 49 degree V-Twin engine that generates 161 Nm of torque. Polaris says the engine has been tested thoroughly for reliability and has clocked 3 million miles during testing.

Indian Chief Classic
The entry level variant is the Classic, which Indian calls a ‘Cruiser'. Price in the U.S is $18,999 (INR 11.66 lakhs).

A few characteristic features which will be seen on all Indian Chief motorcycles include fuel tank mounted instrument panel, extra large fenders and the illuminated ‘Indian Head' mascot, called "war bonnet".

Despite its classic looks the Indian Chief is a modern bike that features an electric start button, like in a car (keyless ignition), ABS, cruise control, ride-by-wire throttle and integrated air intakes among others.

Indian Chief Vintage
This variant is referred to as the ‘Soft Bagger' and is priced at $20,999 (INR 12.89) in the U.S.

So called because of the soft tan leather travel bag and seats, decorated with fringes and chrome studs. It also features a quick release windscreen.

Indian Chief Chieftain
The top of the line variant is called a ‘faired hard bagger'. This all-out long distance tourer has a price tag of $22,999 )(INR 14.12 lakhs) in the US.

The most prominent feature addition provided with the Chieftain are the integrated twin driving lamps on both sides of the headlamp. The Chieftain also features full size electric windshield, hard saddlebags, with remote lock facility, integrated stereo system with Bluetooth connectivity and tyre pressuremonitoring system.

Indian Motorcycles has plans to expand to newer territories in the future and India is included in its global expansion strategy. However, an exact timeframe is not known. Here, Indian Chief will take on its only equal, the Harley Davidson Road King.
