Ducati Monster 696 Launch Planned For India
The Bologna, Italy based superbike maker, Ducati is considering launching the Monster 696 naked street bike in India, according to Autocar India. Monster 696 is the lowest displacement model offered by Ducati, below the Asia specific Monster 795, which is assembled in its Thailand plant.
The reason behind this seems to be pretty clear. The higher excise duty for imported two wheelers above 800cc has meant the Monster 795 will cost more in India. Naturally, the introduction of the sub-800cc Monster 696 is the way to go.

Ducati Monster 696 uses a 696cc, air cooled, L-Twin engine that delivers 80 HP (58.8 kW) @ 9,000rpm and 50.6 lb-ft (7.0 kgm) of torque @ 7,750rpm.

Other than the engine the 696 shares many features with the 795, with a few minor changes.

The Monster 696 uses a tubular steel Trellis frame.

The front tyres on the Monster 696 are Pirelli Angel ST 120/60 17"

While the front suspension remains the same, the rear unit used by the 696 are Sachs adjustable monoshock.

Lastly, the 696 is only 2 kg lighter than the 795, with the tank full.
