An Airbag Designed For Cyclists

Here is an innovative safety invention for cyclists. Two students of a Swedish university, over a period of six years, have developed an airbag for cyclists named Hvvding, roughly translated into English as the 'Chieftain'.

The safety device could be worn around the neck and inflates in a split second it detect a fall. However, it has to be seen if the new devise will take off due to the effectiveness of helmets. The devise is expected to cost around £260 when on sale.

Over 1.2 million people are killed and 50 million injured every year in road accidents. Airbags were first introduced in cars in the United States.

The passive safety device has been hailed for saving the lives of millions who were involved in road accidents. However, airbags have been responsible for the death of few also when they deployed at normal times.
