Triumph To Set Up New Plant In India

Reports say Triumph India will begin work on its new plant soon and assembly could be started as soon as next year. The company had previously spoken to the government of Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. Triumph was looking for a location from which it could easily import CKD kits as well as export assembled bikes.
Triumphs Indian plant will help it reduce its prices. The company which started its Indian operations earlier this year has seen the advantage Harley Davidson has had after it started local assembling of bikes.
An unnamed Karnataka government officer has been quoted in news reports that the land identified for Triumph's Indian plant is near Kolar. It is about 50 kilometres away from the location where Honda is building its third plant.
Triumph is planning to assemble the Bonneville, Street Triple, Speed Triple and Daytona 675 motorcycles in India and import the rest of the models from Thailand. It might build all its models locally depending on market conditions.
Triumph will begin its sales operations in the country by opening four new showrooms starting from July. It is aiming at 12 showrooms by the next three years. The company has stated that it will begin selling its models at a lower price before local production begins so that there is not much of a difference once its starts selling locally assembled motorcycles.
