Mahindra, BMW, VW Vying To Buy Ducati For $1.6B

Investindustrial Holdings SpA, the Italian company that currently owns Ducati has said the bike manufacturer needs a big industrial partner to grow further. The company's chairman Mr Andrea Bonomi has been quoted to have expressed his interest in selling Ducati.
Ducati is a company that has a history of 75 years. It began building motorcycles in 1946 and has never looked back since. Founded by three brother from the Ducati Family, the company changed hands several times before Italian company Investindustrial Holdings SpA purchased it in 2005. the company is running Ducati under the name name Performance Motorcycles SpA.
Mr Banomi has said there have been several investors who have expressed interest in buying Ducati. The company is expecting to get $1.6 million from Ducati's sale. The major names doing the ro0unds as probable candidates to purchase Ducati are India's Mahindra and Mahindra and Germany's BMW and Volkswagen. While Mahindra and BMW have their own two wheeler divisions, Volkswagen has not entered this segment so far.
Ducati's sales has been on the upswing all over the globe, especially in the USA where it has registered a 43% increase. Ducati has opened its operations in India too and several of its models including the Diavel and the Monster.
Mahindra has acquired the Korean car manufacturer Ssangyong in 2010. Ducati is not the only company that Mahindra has set its eyes on. There are reports that say it is also bidding to buy Swedish carmaker Saab.
