Two Wheeler Sales Also Affected by Budget 2012

It is not only the car market that has received a positive push in sales due to fears of higher prices after the union budget of 2012. The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers has revealed figures that indicate a 11.96 per cent increase in sales when compared to sales recorded in the same month last year.

The near 12 per cent increase in February sales amounted to 11,44,500 unit sales as against 10,22,226 unit sales achieved in February 2011. Motorcycles saw total sales of 8,38,193 units marking a 8.01 per cent increase.

Looking in to the individual performance of two wheeler manufacturers in February 2012, market leader Hero MotoCorp sold 4,70,994 vehicle marking a 9.55 per cent increase. Bajaj Auto has posted just a 0.59 per cent increase in sales to 2,03,919 units.

Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India posted a better sales increase of 39.05 per cent with 75,110 units sales. Fourth placed TVS was not lucky enough and posted a 6.8 per cent decline in sales to 49,067 units.

The scooter segment has performed much better when compared to motorcycles. Scooter sales grew a massive 27.99 per cent to 2,37,374 units fro February 2011's sales of 1,85,460 units. SIAM has said Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India benefited the most as it posted a 55.41 per cent increase with 1,22,386 sales.

TVS Motors sales in the scooter segment also saw a sharp decline of 8.7 per cent. Hero MotoCorp posted a 19.49 per cent increase in scooter sales at 39,464 unit sales.

TVS Motor's scooter sales were at 34,796 units, a decrease of 8.7 per cent, while that of Hero MotoCorp went up by 19.49 per cent to 39,464 units.
