Hero MotoCorp March Sales Up 2 Per Cent

The company has been consistently selling more than five lakh two wheelers since several months. This performance has also helped it breach the coveted 60 lakh unit mark for the financial year ending March 2012.
In its statement to the media, Hero MotoCorp said it had sold 54,02,444 motorcycles and scooters in 2010-11 and this year's sales reflected a massive 15.41% increase. This is a positive achievement for a company that had to sever ties with long term partner of 26 years Honda in 2011.
Speaking to the media after Hero posted its sales figures, Hero MotoCorp Managing Director and CEO Pawan Munjal said the financial year was a defining year for the company. He described the year as action packed and memorable. The action was from the split with Honda and the the year is memorable as Hero emerged as an independent company and launched two new products.
Mr Munjal said Hero had not only managed to retain its leadership position in the market but also improved upon previous sales performances. Analysts had feared Hero would not be as successful as it was after it split with Honda. Hero still relies on Honda for technology.
However Hero is moving towards other technology partners so that it need not pay huge royalties to Honda as it is currently doing. Hero Sales performance also indicates the strong presence of its two best selling models – the Splendour and Passion in the market.
The Splendour and Passion are affordable, easy to maintain and deliver good mileage making them a favourite among city and rural bike users. The removal of the Honda tag from these two bikes appear to have done little to harm their reputation.
