Harley Davidson Swept Away By Tsunami Found In Can

The devastating tsunami left many people with lost loved ones and belongings. A Japanese motorcycle enthusiast Ikuo Yokoyama who lost three of his family members also lost his favourite 2008 Harley Davidson Night Train motorcycle to the Tsunami. The Harley Davidson was swept away in to the sea by the tsunami and Yokoyuma though the Motorcycle was lost forever.

But as fate would have it the Harley Davidson was found floating inside a cargo container on the shores of Haida Gwaii, near Vancouver in Canada. Harley Davidson's Canadian unit identified the owner of the bike using its number plate and are now trying to reunite the motorcycle with its owner.

Reacting to his motorcycle being found after more than a year, a visibly happy Yokoyuma while speaking to TV reporters said: “I am very thankful that it came back. I would like to thank the man who found my bike in person, but because it's hard to do that, I'd like to thank him here right now.”

The Harley Davidson Night Train has been ravaged by the sea water and is currently not in a drivable condition. Harley Davidson has offered to restore the motorcycle before it is delivered to Mr Yokoyuma. The restoration cost is expected to be around $40,000, almost double the price of the bike when new.

The bike managed to survive the 6,500 kilometre journey across the pacific ocean as the container it was found was lined with Styrofoam allowing it to float. The bike is expected to be flown back to Japan in a few days.
