Yamaha Scooter In India Soon

The Japanese auto giant Yamaha said it will be launching a scooter for the Indian market in the next year with a plant for it to be ready in UP at an investment of R10 crore. The company"s CEO and MD for India said the scooter market has a huge potential in the Indian market and Yamaha intends to have a strong presence. He said the Yamaha scooter in all probabilities will roll down in 2012. Not revealing much details about the specifications of the Yamaha scooter he said the focus will be on personal commuting added with style and smart design portraying the brand image of Yamaha.

The official said he would like to have the success run of the company akin to the one achieved in Indonesia under his stewardship. In the Indonesian market the company has got 46% close to Honda and he said his intention was to replicate that in India. He assured that the Yamaha scooter in India will have a different outlook from that of Honda which focus on domestic parleys. The growth of Indian scooter market has been to 50.54% in 2010 with volume of 19.6 lakhs where Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has the dominant force followed by TVS and Hero Honda.

The company"s Director for Yamaha India said the scooter will be positioned as a pan-India specific one to be developed from its apex company. The move to enter into the scooter segment is to boost the net volume of the company in India. The expected target for this year is 5 lakh units in2011 from which 3.5 lakh units to be from the domestic market and the remaining from the export markets. In 2010 the company could sell 3.8 lakh units with 2.5 lakh units in the domestic market and the rest in the export markets. He said an electric version of bike is in the offing for the Indian market to feed the alternative transportation.
