Hyosung GT650R To Be Manufactured In India

The Hyosung GT650R is all set to be manufactured in India according to the Garware-Hyosung, the Korean bike manufacturer. The GT650R was launched in India in May with a price tag of Rs.4.75 lakhs. The super bike has run into tough competition within a month as the Kawasaki Ninja 650R was launched by Bajaj Auto with a starting price of Rs. 4.47 lakhs.

The Ninja 650R's price has come as a shocker to Hyosung. The Kawasaki Ninja brand is well established in India thanks to the Ninja 250R. The Korean firm on the other hand has to build its brand image from scratch. Hyosung considered the GT650R would be an ideal platform for its entry in India. The company is now looking at manufacturing the Hyosung GT650R in India within two years. It is aiming to find a joint venture partner in India and to increase local sourcing of parts.

The price of the Hyosung GT650R is expected to be reduced to as low as Rs. 3 lakhs once it is manufactured in India. Diya Garware Ibanez, who is the Managing Director of Garware-Hyosung said the process of manufacturing the bike in India would take at least two years. One can only wonder if the Hyosung GT650R manufactured in India could make an impact with a reduced price tag against the established Kawasaki Ninja 650R.
