The official break away of the JV between Honda and Hero Group from the Hero Honda Motors has given way for devising their own strategies. Honda is already in the market with its subsidiary Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India and for it the split is a blessing in disguise.

The company is aiming to go alone in the battle for the top slot in the motorcycles in India. It said the instant aim is to break the barrier set by Hero Honda Motor in reaching the milestone. The time span will be another ten years, it said, and to begin with the company will roll out its first 100cc bike in 2012. The company"s CEO and President said the company"s target in the next decade is to be the number one in the motorcycle segment. To reach the mass customers there will be a new 100cc bike and he said the reversal of fortune is coming from urban market where there is a demand for 100 cc bikes.

He pointed out that the current trend indicated the volume of two thirds from the urban sector and one-third from the rural sector and semi-urban areas. This may become reversed in another ten years, he was quoted as saying. The company"s sale target for 2010-11 is 16.5 lakh units making a rise of 30% growth from the previous fiscal. He said there could be sale of 21 lakhs units with the rise of 27% in 2011-12. With the Indian two wheeler market having its high volume in motorcycle he said the instant focus will be on new models in the Indian market. The 100 cc bike which is under development will be launched next year, he added. He is departing the Indian arm to join the parent body as his four year tenure has made this move. He will be replaced by Keita Muramatsu from this April 1.
