Castrol India Closes Its Chennai Plant

Automobile lubricant maker Castrol India has closed down its production plant in Tondiarpet, near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The Tondiarpet plant happens to be Castrol's oldest plant in India. The company has said the production cost per litre at this plant had increased recently which did not made it economically viable.

Castrol India has decided to gradually phaseout production and has also offered a voluntary retirement scheme for its employees and all employees have decided to part ways with the company.

Castrol India's Tondiarpet plant will be operational until 31st July this year. The company is yet to make a decision on the machinery and the plant at a later date.

Castrol India is a brand of industrial and automotive lubricants which is applied to a large range of oils, greases and similar products for most lubrication applications. The Castrol brand is part of the BP's Group of Companies, but has retained its separate identity.
