Bajaj Auto Aiming At Five Million Annual Sales

Bajaj Auto which also manufactures three wheelers has set its elf a stiff sales target. The company is currently selling 3.7 lakh units a month and needs to add 50,000 units to its sales. The Bajaj Discover is its highest selling model contributing 1.35 lkah sales. It is followed by the Bajaj Pulsar with 85,000 sales.
Bajaj Auto is currently exporting a 150cc Boxer from its plant in China to Africa. The same model is expected to be launched here in India soon. The company is expecting the 150cc Boxer will add 40,000 units to its monthly sales. The CT 100 and Platina contribute a combined 65,000 sales. Bajaj Auto's three-wheeler division sells 45,000 units per month.
Bajaj Auto Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj optimistic that Pulsar and Discover numbers will continue to grow. He also said the soon to be launched 150cc Boxer will become a sales hit. He added: “We wrapped up FY '10 with 2.8 million units, going up strongly to 3.8 million units in 2010-11. All this while, we have ensured an EBITDA margin of over 20 per cent which is testimony to a successful brand strategy," he added.
The Bajaj Discover has been Bajaj's sales cow since two years. The 100 cc version and the 150cc version offer practicality and power. The recently launched 125cc version has since emerged as Bajaj Auto's best selling vehicle on a monthly basis. Bajaj is hoping the Discover will make a dent in the commuter bike segment that has so far been dominated by Hero Honda.
Mr Bajaj also said the Pulsar sports bike was performing well with sales above 80,000 units per month. He said the Pulsar would get an upgrade by September this year.
The 150cc Boxer being touted as the Bharath bike has already been launched in Uttar Pradesh. With a price tag of Rs.40,000 and a rugged look, the new Boxer will find buyers in the rural and semi urban buyers in India.
