Hero MotoCorp Premium Bike Sales Drop

In fact, Hero's sales in this sector has dropped by a massive 30 per cent even while its close coompetitors reported increased sales. The Kariszma is Hero Mototcorp's most famous premium bike but it has not been able to achieve expected sales in the face of increasing competition. Bajaj Auto and Honda have been growing well and have created a niche market for themselves.
While Bajaj Auto and Honda concentrated on improving their product base, Hero Motocorp continued to focus on its bread and butter models in the commuter segment. Now the Bajaj Pulsar is the highest selling sports bike in the country with no close competitor from India's top two wheeler manufacturer.
Reports on premium bike sales show Hero MotoCorp sold just 23,860 premium bikes in November as against the 34,116 bikes it sold in January 2011. Bajaj Auto which had sold 1.10 lakh bikes in January and sold 1.34 lakh bikes in November. Honda on the other hand has sold 59,267 bikes in November 2011.
The premium bike segment is the fastest growing segment currently in the two wheeler market and the market leader is struggling. Has the change in brand name had an effect on sales?
