Bajaj Auto Targets Two Million Exports

Bajaj Auto, India's second largest two-wheeler manufacturer has said it is aiming to export 1 to 2 million two-wheelers per year in the next three to four years. The company has set its sights on the international markets and has already started exporting its models to Africa and South East Asia.

Bajaj Auto has already exported more than one million two wheelers and three wheelers. Rahul Bajaj. The chairman of Bajaj Auto Ltd (BAL) said: “ Bajaj Auto has exported more than 1.2 million units (in FY 2011). I look forward to breaching the 2 million mark in the next three to four years."

The annual report of Bajaj Auto indicates the company has exported 12,03,718 vehicles during the financial year ending March 2011 registering a 35 per cent increase from the previous year. The company said exports accounted for 28.5 per cent of its total sales at Rs.4,552 crores.

Bajaj has said its exports would focus more on African markets such as Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya and Angola. The Pulsar is Bajaj's most popular model even in these markets. Bajaj's sales in South East Asia as well as Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have also increased. Bajaj Auto Exports to Latin America has registered a 45 per cent increase.

Bajaj Auto has so far exported 4,55,645 units of motorcycles and 1,15,715 three wheelers during this fiscal year.

Bajaj Auto is not the only Indian two wheeler manufacturer to focus on exports. Hero MotoCorp, the erstwhile partner of Honda Motors has said it would also focus on the international markets and would soon begin exports.
