Honda To Set Up Third Plant In Karnataka

Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI), the Japanese two wheeler and car giant is all set to begin construction of its third two wheeler plant in India. The new plant will be located at Narsapur, a town adjoining Bengaluru. Honda had announced it would be building its third plant soon and will invest Rs.1,300 crores.

Mr Keita Muramatsu, President and CEO HMSI, Mr Toshio Kawatsu Group Vice President and Director, Mr V. Sridhar Sr Vice President HMSI have held talks with Karnataka government officials to finalise the deal. The foundation laying ceremony for the Honda plant will be held on 29th September according to reports.

N. K. Rattan, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd."s vice president for sales and marketing while confirming the news said: “There is a waiting period on our products. About 300,000 customers are currently waiting. So, we have decided to step up our capacity-increase plans."

Honda's investment is by far its largest in India in recent years. The two wheeler manufacturer is aggressively pushing its sales targets and is aiming to become India's top selling two wheeler manufacturer ahead of former partner Hero MotorCorp.

Honda ended its joint venture with Hero Motors after which Hero Honda ceased to exist. Honda wants to establish itself as a dominant player in the Indian market. It will be launching several new models in the commuter bike and sports bike segments. Honda has two plants in India, - one in Manesar, Haryana and the second plant is in Tapukara, Rajastan.
