TVS Gets Mamata's Mamata; To Build Plant In WB

TVS, India's third largest two wheeler manufacturer is expanding its wings In the country. It will soon begin work on constructing a new manufacturing plant in West Bengal. The new plant will be under a recently acquired Mahabharat Motors Manufacturing Co. The company has not disclosed how much it will invest in the plant in West Bengal.

TVS has stated it will be investing in the spun of division of Mahabharat Motors. The volume of investment has not been revealed yet. The new plant will help TVS increase its reach in the eastern market. The company has its plants in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh.

The plant will also mark a slight revival of West Bengal's image as an industrial state. The Tata Nano plant's controversy hugely dented West Bengal's credentials as an auto friendly state. This plant although not huge can be considered as a new beginning of sorts.

TVS needs to obtain regulatory clearances before it can begin operations. The company had initially tied up with Mahabharath to provide technical support in 2008. The new investment will increase TVS's role in the two wheeler manufacturer.
