Royal Enfield Gets Back To Diesel Bullet

Diesel Enfield
Royal Enfield is planning to develop a diesel engines for its motorcycles and enter new segments in motorcycles. These moves are being considered to make the brand more competitive in the face of international motorcycle brands entering the Indian market. The Chennai based company is looking at developing 750cc engines for its motorcycles.

Royal Enfield, India's smallest two wheeler manufacturer by volume is looking to woo customers through a wider range of products and a diesel Bullet is one of the products under consideration. Royal Enfield was building diesel powered Bullets but the product was stopped following stricter emission norms.

The company is considering larger capacity two cylinder engines for its models. Royal Enfield has no particular competition in the 350cc and 500cc bike category but it will be facing competition from brands such as Kawasaki and Hyosung.

A diesel powered motorcycle will not be a radical innovation but will surely attract customers who are conscious of fuel costs. Petrol remains an expensive fuel and car buyers are preferring to buy diesel cars more than petrol cars. Hence a diesel Bullet is also being considered. The Diesel Bullet is expected to deliver a fuel economy of over 70kmpl which is astounding for a cruise bike such as the Bullet.

The Diesel Bullet is being developed at Enfield's facility near Chennai. We will be providing more updates about the diesel Bullet as and when it happens. Royal Enfield currently sells the Classic 350 and the Classic 500 along with the Electra and Thunderbird. Reports say the bike might be unveiled at the 2012 Auto Expo in Delhi.
