Suzuki is all set to roll up its sleeves to grab the two-wheeler market in India within the next one and half years. The Japanese auto giant will double its investments likely to be Rs.200 crores (in addition to its capital investment of Rs. 450 crore) and thereby increase the production capacity two fold. Currently 1.88 lakh units were sold in the 2009-2010 period and the company targets to sell 3 lakh units in the next 18 months.

Entry level bikes are the largest segment in Indian two wheelers and Suzuki is to go head to head in this segment (100cc bikes) with Hero Honda and Bajaj already leading in 100 cc bikes sales. Its quite disappointing that although Suzuki is No.1 brand in Indian auto industry along with Maruti, its two wheelers aren't that popular in the country as only 2% of Suzuki bikes are running in India as against more than 50% Maruti Suzuki cars. In order to make a strong foot in the two wheeler market, Suzuki will rely on new products to be launched in near future.

Suzuki's line up of bikes include Zeus, a 125cc motorbike and GS150R, the 150cc motorbike and it also has an automatic scooter Access 125cc. Another 125cc bike is due in October 2010 followed by 3 new launch over a period of 18 months. The company hopes that the new launches will boost the sales volume. Suzuki has also lined up its premium bikes ranging from 10 - 12 lakh rupees. This includes, the Hayabusa, Intruder and the Bandit 1250cc.
