The company"s President and Chief Operating Officer said that the response to the initial launches in the Indian market has boosted the company"s presence and the time has come to widen its wings with this assembling facility.
Once the facility becomes fully operational the company will derive components from its US plant and the technicians at the facility will start assembling the bikes. Yet some of the models will be continued to be imported as CBUs as Harley -David has 12 models in Indian market, since its entry in August 2009.
The company has been receiving global competitors in the form of BMW which said it is launching its motorcycle in India by this December. BMW has already identified three dealers for this purpose. This comes in the wake of the net growth in the Indian two wheeler market, 25.86% during April-September 2010, according to SIAM. The major beneficiaries out of this growth are the domestic players, Hero Honda, Bajaj and TVS Motor.
