Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal Advocates For Delivery Partners' Rights After Personal Experience

Zomato, a leading food delivery service in India, has been in the spotlight due to the challenges faced by its delivery partners. Many of these workers encounter poor treatment from customers. Recently, Deepinder Goyal, the CEO of Zomato, experienced similar issues firsthand while working as a delivery partner.

Deepinder Goyal, known for his passion for luxury cars like the Aston Martin DB12 and Ferrari Roma, is currently navigating the streets of Gurugram on a Triumph Scrambler 400X motorcycle. Despite his high-profile position, he aims to understand the difficulties faced by delivery partners.

Goyal Advocates for Delivery Partners Rights

During his second delivery attempt, Goyal encountered problems at a shopping mall in Gurugram. The staff directed him to use an alternate entrance, mistaking him for a regular delivery worker. This route lacked a lift, forcing him to climb stairs to reach the third floor.

After completing his delivery, Goyal spoke with other delivery partners about their experiences. He later shared a video on social media detailing his ordeal and emphasised the need for better treatment of delivery workers in malls.

"I realized that we need to work more closely with shopping mall management to improve working conditions for all delivery partners. And malls also need to be more humane to delivery partners," he stated in the video.

The Triumph Scrambler 400X motorcycle used by Goyal costs 2.64 lakh rupees ex-showroom in India. It features a 398.15 cc engine producing 40 PS of power and 37.5 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

Goyal's experience highlights a broader issue where some malls and apartment complexes restrict lift access for delivery workers. This forces them to use stairs, often carrying heavy loads. Many believe these workers deserve respect and better working conditions.

Social media users are calling for stricter regulations against establishments that mistreat delivery personnel. There is speculation that government intervention may follow, as seen recently when action was taken against a Bengaluru mall for discriminatory practices.

The incident underscores the importance of treating all workers with dignity and ensuring they have access to necessary facilities like lifts. Such changes could significantly improve their daily work experiences.
