The World’s Tallest Bridge Is Now Open - Cuts Travel Time From 2 Hours To 2 Mins
China has opened the World's Tallest Bridge in its southwestern province of Guizhou. The new 2,890-meter-long Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge crosses over the river Beipan.
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge connects the city of Liupanshui with Guiyang, the provincial capital of Guizhou, drastically shortening travel time across the rugged terrain of the canyon dubbed the "earth's crack".

The new world's tallest bridge rises 625 metres above the canyon floor, and its main suspension span measures 1,420 metres long. The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge carries four lanes of traffic and connects major highways that pass through one of China's most mountainous regions.
Journey times across the Huajiang Canyon have been reduced from two hours on winding mountain roads to just two minutes on the bridge deck, according to a news report by China's Xinhua news agency.

The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, completed in just over three years, now holds two impressive world records. It claims the title of the world's highest bridge, soaring 625 meters above the river, surpassing the Duge Bridge, which is located upstream on the Beipan River.
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge also ranks as the largest-span mountain bridge, stretching 2,890 meters in total, with a central span of 1,420 meters-the longest ever constructed in a mountainous region.
The previous world's highest bridge, also crossing the Beipan River, lies about 100 km from the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge. Opened in 2016, it featured a vertical clearance of 565.4 metres from the deck down to the river below.
Before opening to the public, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge underwent extensive safety testing. In a full-scale load trial, engineers positioned 96 heavy trucks across the span to mimic the stresses of heavy traffic.
Beyond serving as a vital transport link, the Huajiang Bridge is being developed as a major tourist attraction. Visitors can experience a 207-meter sightseeing elevator, enjoy some hot brews at cafe atop one of the bridge towers, take in breathtaking views from viewing platforms that hover high above the canyon floor and even go bungee jumping.
However, when it comes to the tallest bridge in terms of its structural height, the Millau Viaduct in France still holds the title at 343 metres.
