World's First Manned Hoverbike Scorpion 3 Tested [Video]
The video footage captures the world's first hoverbike being tested in a warehouse. The quadcopter drone lets riders to navigate just like a motorbike.
Hoversurf, a Russian group that builds drones, have posted a video showing off its new prototype: the Scorpion 3, a single-seat, electric-powered hoverbike.
The single-seat hoverbike is capable of lifting a person in the air with full passenger control. The company says that they wanted to merge a standard motorbike design with drone quadcopter technology. This allows the riders to manoeuvre in the air just like riding a bike.
The hoverbike is built on the Scorpion 3 platform which can carry nearly 120kg in weight and hit top speeds of 48km/hwhile reaching an altitude of 33 feet.
Hoversurf says that the electric-borne hoverbike is intended for both "amateur and professional navigators". The hoverbike uses a custom-built software to limit the maximum speed and the altitude to prevent any possible accidents.
The company added that the Scorpion's design was "inspired by heavy-duty sport-utility motorbike frames" and "basically surfs through the air by changing altitude and direction."
The footage reveals the rider, kitted in protective gear, mounting the hoverbike and starting the rotary engines. As the rotary motors pick up speed, the hoverbike rumbles to life and inclines forward and the rear of the hoverbike lifts up.
While the concept will take some time to move into theproduction stage, drones are increasingly becoming part of the future of mobility solutions.
Now watch the footage of the world's first fully manned hoverbike concept showcasing its capabilities.
While we wait for the hoverbike concept to make it to production, treat yourself to an extensive photo gallery of the 2017 KTM Duke 390.
