British Woman Killed After Car Plummets Off A Multi-Storey Car Park In Abu Dhabi
A British woman was killed in Abu Dhabi after her car plunged off a multi storey car park while reversing.
A 53-year-old British woman, Linda Al Selmie, was killed when her BMW plummeted off a multi-storey car park in Abu Dhabi. The accident occurred when Al Selmie was trying to park her car on the sixth floor when she accidentally reversed the car off the building.
Al Selmie, originally from Darlington, England, suffered multiple injuries when her BMW SUV landed in front of the entrance of the car park. The photographs reveal a destroyed vehicle, having taken a severe impact on the rear.
Following the incident, an investigation was launched, which revealed that the concrete and metal barrier was built shorter than the original design and should have been further in from the edge than it had been positioned.
BMW officials inspected the vehicle and had confirmed that there were no mechanical failures, although there were tyre skid marks in the parking space, where Al Selmie appeared to have slammed the brakes.

Criminal proceedings are underway over the building regulations, but not over Al Selmie's death. Speaking after the court hearing, Al Selmie's sister, Marjorie Carney said: "We will never know what caused the car to go through the barrier. She had a wonderful life."

Such an accident reveals some of the dangers involved in multi-storey car parks. As per what investigations reveal, Selmie's fatal crash does seem to be an accident, until further evidence proves otherwise.
