Premium EV Cars Still A Distant Dream For India? — Here Are The Facts You Should Know!
Have you ever thought why Tesla is not coming to India? Click here to read why premium EV cars are still not present in India.
By now, you might've heard about the newly released Tesla Semi Truck and the Roadster. If you have, then you would know a thing or two about Tesla, Rimac or premium electric cars in general.
Now the question you might have is, 'When is Tesla coming to India?'. The man behind Tesla, Elon Musk, has never given a convincing answer to this question till date.
Keeping in mind that we are talking only about 'premium' EV cars, here are some things you should know:
Popularity
Now,
we
both
know
about
Tesla
or
the
fact
that
cars
that
run
on
electricity
exist.
But
there
are
quite
a
lot
of
people
in
India
who
still
see
the
concept
of
electric
mobility
as
absurd.
Roads
All
the
claims
on
Range,
Practicality
and
Performance
of
EVs
are
based
on
the
wide
and
well-paved
roads
abroad.
India,
as
we
know
it,
doesn't
have
the
best
of
road
and
traffic
conditions,
at
least
in
most
places.
Battery
Though
most
EVs
get
a
decent
warranty
period
for
their
battery-packs,
replacement
costs
if
levied
will
be
high.
Also,
Lithium
in
Li-ion
batteries
has
to
be
sourced
from
foreign
countries
since
we
don't
have
that
mineral
in
our
soils.
Value
For
Money
A
well-equipped
Tesla
Model
S
(P100
D),
costs
more
than
a
Mercedes
Benz
S-Class
(S500),
but
offers
much
fewer
features,
comfort
and
noise
insulation.
The
Tesla
might
be
more
technologically-advanced
and
could
get
new
features
via
a
software
update.
But
when
it
comes
to
daily
usage,
you
might
get
better
choices
in
other
fossil-fuel
offerings
though
they
tend
to
harm
the
environment
a
bit.
Infrastructure
The
replacement
cost
of
the
battery
packs
in
electric
cars
is
high.
It
is
because
all
the
individual
components
in
the
cell
are
sourced
from
different
manufacturers
or
even
countries.
This
is
why
Tesla
is
setting
up
their
own
battery
production
facility.
If
EVs
have
to
be
common,
then
a
good
network
of
charging
stations
also
have
to
set
up
beforehand.
Electric
Consumption
Though
you
do
not
have
to
go
all
‘Kitna
deti
hai?'
with
a
Tesla,
you
still
have
to
worry
about
the
increased
electric
bills
(varies
per
motor
and
charging
rate).
Do
keep
in
mind
that,
in
a
developing
country
like
India,
electric-power
isn't
available
abundantly.
Noise
Although
this
doesn't
pertain
to
most
potential
Tesla
buyers,
at
least
some
would
want
to
get
a
proper
driving
feel
in
their
expensive
automobile.
Agree
or
disagree,
EVs
can
never
offer
the
feeling
of
involvement
got
in
an
ICE
(Internal
Combustion
Engine)
car.
DriveSpark Thinks!
Electric cars are surely a dominant part of the future of Automobiles. But, the shift from conventionally fuelled cars into fully-electric, is a far-fetched goal. The infrastructure to support EVs in India should also develop in harmony with the actual number of electric vehicles sold. So now, if someone says he/she wants to completely shift to EVs to make the world clean, you know what all the challenges are.
