How To Powerslide On A Bike

By Ajinkya

KTM has been selling it's bikes in India and are doing very well, with the duke 200 and 390. However, these bikes were actually meant to be ridden in the supermoto style. The KTM is a perfect bike for supermoto riding.

Supermoto got famous thanks to the flamboyant riding style and powerslide of the riders. Supermoto originated out of curiosity, a dirt bike was taken apart of the button tyres and slick tyres were installed and a new race form was born.

For most people getting a bike to slide is easy however, maintaining race line will sliding is difficult and impossible for some. We share with you two easy ways to powerslide.

First: The easy and simplest way to slide your bike is hit the rear brakes hard however, speed should be high as your speed would be decreasing as you're on the brakes. Find a balance between how much you need to apply the breaks. Remember since your sliding you will have to counter steer the bike.

Second: The difficult way to powerslide and how the pros do it like Nicky Hayden, Casey Stoner, etc, these are MotoGP riders, however they have mastered the technique and use it in GP racing too. While turning you need to accelerate and spin your rear tyre faster than front tyre. This will make the rear step out and slide. This is difficult to control and master, it is not everyone's forte. Too much acceleration and the bike will flip you off. Once done correctly it looks and feels amazing.

Tyre issue may be of concern however, 500cc MotoGP race winner Gary McCoy explains, if you spin the tyre fast enough nothing happens to the tyre, if you break however you stand the chance to gain bald spots on your rubber.

We do not give you permission to try this on the streets, practice on tracks or on closed roads. Be safe and save the rest.
