Servo xP95 Vroom Drag Meet 2022: Hemanth Muddappa Dominates As Harmonixx Tuned Cayenne Delivers SUV Shocker
The smell of burning rubber and fuel and the sounds of engines roaring once again filled the air as India's Premier Drag Racing event - Vroom Drag Meet presented by Servo xP95 - returned last weekend.
The 6th edition of Vroom Drag Meet saw multiple cars and bikes racing down the runway at Taneja Aerospace & Aviation Limited (TAAL) in Hosur. The blockbuster 3-day event marked the return of Vroom Drag Meet after a multi-year hiatus caused by the blasted pandemic.
Vroom Drag Meet 2022 saw participation from a plethora of cars and bikes from across the country. The bikes categories included everything from heavily modified old school Yamaha RX 100s to a race-prepped Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R along with the usual suspects like the infamous RD 350s and the latest crop of KTMs from the 390 family.
The cars categories like the bikes were varied and loud. This included multiple modified Zen hatchbacks to JDM greats like the Nissan GT-R along with a few Italian and German thoroughbred exotics with beating V10 hearts and some really loud exhausts.
All these cars and bikes competed against their rivals in multiple categories in a bid to be crowned the undisputed king of the quarter mile. So here's what went down from the 4th to the 6th of March at TAAL at Vroom Drag Meet 2022 presented by Servo xP95.
March 4th - Scrutiny
Before the racing could begin all participants and their steeds of choice had to pass mandatory scrutiny by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), the motorsport body authorising the event.
With separate scrutiny tents set up for bikes and cars, the officials from the FMSCI slowly but surely ensured that any vehicles participating at Vroom Drag Meet 2022 were up to snuff.
Everything from body panels to brake lights was put under the microscope to ensure that racing would be safe and clean when the action finally hit the drag strip. The safety gear of the riders and drivers from the helmets to the race suits and footwear was examined with a gimlet eye to ensure safe racing over the weekend.
Once the hundreds of participants were cleared for racing, the dragstrip at TAAL was opened for paid practice runs which a few competitors took full advantage of.
Day 1 - March 5th - Racing Returns
Day 1 of racing at Vroom Drag Meet 2022 saw smaller displacement two-stroke motorcycles (the under 135cc segment and the up to 165cc category) hit the drag strip.
Our personal highlight from this set of old school racers was the drag-built Yamaha RX135. Ridden by the youngest rider in the competition, 11-year old Shreyas Hareesh, this dragster from NMW Racing cut across the quarter mile strip of tarmac in just 14.510 seconds.
Then came the A3 segment of two-stroke bikes with Yamaha's infamous RD 350s taking centre stage. The distinctive braap of these yesteryear heroes was soon overshadowed by the sights and sound of them streaking across the runway.
Another nostalgic scene was the sight of the F4 Jawa/Yezdi open category which saw quite a few of these old motorcycles show off their speed over the quarter mile.
After the potent smoke mix from the rubber, fuel and oil from the two strokes had settled down, the modern-day 4 strokers hit the tarmac. 4-stroke bikes competing on the first day ran in five different categories with engines displacements ranging from 165cc all the way up to 850cc.
The usual suspects dominated the categories with R15s, Pulsars, R3s, Ninja 300s and KTM 390s dominating their respective classes as the racing continued at full chat.
The organisers also had a few categories open only for women riders who were rather keen not to let the boys have all the fun. The fastest female rider of the day and at Vroom was Samantha D'Souza (Participant No 262), who clocked a time of 13.751 seconds across the quarter mile astride her KTM 390.
After the last of the bikes had cleared the scene, the cars finally hit the drag strip. Day one saw the diesels hit the track. Yes, you early 2000s Clarkson wannabes, diesels do have a place on a race track, especially if they're as fast as this lot. The fastest diesel car on Day 1 at Vroom Drag Meet 2022 was the BMW 530d M Sport driven by Sumanth HV which clocked a time of 14.327 seconds.
The diesels were followed by the stock petrol cars with everything from Zen Hatchbacks to big German saloons like the A6 and even a few sports cars like the Porsche Boxster hit the track. The fastest of the petrol cars on Day 1 was a Skoda Octavia driven by Uvashri KB which cleared the quarter mile in 14.086 seconds.
The day was capped off by the TVS Racing Stunt team who put on a show that ensured that everyone finished Day 1 of racing on an adrenaline high.

Day 2 - March 6th - The Big Toys Hit The Track
The second and final day of Drag Racing at Vroom Drag Meet 2022 was one that promised a whole lot with the heavily modified monsters and super vehicles set to scorch the tarmac.
After the briefing for the riders and drivers, it was time to burn rubber once again. The racing kicked off with bikes powered by single/twin-cylinder engines varying from 551 to 850cc.
The highlight of this category was the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 ridden by Lani Zena Fernandes who was definitely a crowd favourite. Fernandes clocked a time of 12.145 seconds to finish third. The category was won by Altaf Khan (#166) who clocked a time of 11.764 seconds.
Then came the time of the superbikes and the name dominating top of the timesheets for many of the categories that followed was Hemanth Muddappa and his Mantra Racing tuned machines.
Mudappa won the C1, C2 Supersport categories along with the unrestricted U2 section. While his C1 and U2 wins were astride the BMW S 1000RR, his victory in the C2 category saw him blitz the drag strip on his Suzuki Hayabusa. All three wins saw Muddappa slip under the 10 second mark and he was the only person at Vroom DragMeet 2022 to achieve this feat. His fastest time was set while racing in the U2 class where he clocked a time of 9.752 seconds.
Other highlights in the bike categories was the lone Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R also tuned by Mantra Racing and the wheelie races. This Ninja was the only participant in 1,651 cc and above C3 category and with Sundeep Singh Sokhi at the controls streaked across the drag strip in 10.785 seconds.
Once the bikes had left their rubber on the tarmac at TAAL, it was time for the big engined and heavily modified cars to hit the strip. Everything from highly modified Maruti Zens to exotics like Nissan GTRs and Audi R8 V10s hit the track.
However, when the tarmac was finally visible after all the tyre smoke had risen away we found out that an SUV had clocked the fastest time by a car at Vroom Drag Meet 2022.
The SUV in question was K Venkat Sai Reddy's Porsche Cayenne Turbo which was tuned by Harmonixx and clocked a time of 11.401 seconds across the quarter mile.
The day ended with the fastest drivers and riders being felicitated which was then followed by another display by the TVS Racing stunt team.
Vroom Drag Meet 2022 saw multiple garages displaying their vehicles and some of these included cars and bikes that didn't participate in the races.
Highlights included the Nissan R32, R34, and R35 GT-Rs present side-by-side at the same time along with an Audi RS6, a Nissan Patrol on giant chrome wheels, and Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder among many others.
