Volkswagen’s Scary Side Assist Technology Ad

A major concern, especially for those driving on urban roads is the blind spot that appears (or rather does not appear) on the outside rear view mirrors. This small patch of space, which is not reflected in the mirrors is the cause for thousands of accidents everywhere and most often than not it is between a car and a bike.

To avoid this hazard many modern cars come equipped with electronic aids which warn drivers about an incoming vehicle from the rear, not seen in the mirrors. Volkswagen Side Assist Technology is one such road safety feature. The system consists of radars which scan the blind spots on either sides of the car up to 50 meters. Upon detection of a vehicle in the blind spot the driver is warned by a light on the mirrors on side the vehicle is coming from.
